Joseph Edlow, President Donald Trump’s pick to oversee legal immigration, wants US Citizenship and Immigration Services to be seen as an enforcement agency if confirmed to lead it.
“I will restore integrity within the legal immigration system,” Edlow testified Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where he fielded questions about immigrant vetting, asylum backlogs, and “Dreamers” who arrived in the US as children.
The agency must play “as critical a role” in enforcement as other Department of Homeland Security agencies, including Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, he said.
