President Donald Trump’s closest allies in Congress are eager to punish the federal judges standing in the way of his second-term agenda.
The president demanded the impeachment of US District Judge James Boasberg over the judge’s decision on March 15 to block deportations of Venezuelan immigrants under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. Shortly after, conservative hard-liners in the House began agitating for Boasberg’s removal, with freshman Republican Representative Brandon Gill filing articles of impeachment that accuse him of abuse of power and political activism.
