United Airlines’ Green Efforts Misleading, Customers Say (1)

A United Airlines Inc. customer from Maryland is suing the company for allegedly overstating its environmental initiatives, including the use of sustainable fuel.

Alexander Zajac, on behalf of a would-be class, says he believed that flying with United or its codeshare partners would be better for the environment based on the company’s promotions of its Eco-Skies program, commitments to be “100% Green” and carbon-neutral by 2050, and its claims to use nonfossil fuel energy sources.

The Eco-Skies Alliance program “allows corporate customers the opportunity to pay the additional cost for sustainable aviation fuel,” according to the airline’s website.
