Washington state will require businesses to notify their employees about federal immigration enforcement efforts at their workplace under legislation Gov. Bob Ferguson (D) signed into law.
The measure (HB 2105), signed Monday, creates two notice requirements. Employers must tell their workers when federal authorities inform them of plans for an I-9 audit and then they must notify any workers identified in the audit as being potentially unauthorized to work so they can correct errors. The mandates take effect Oct. 1.
