France Seeks Fertilizers Exemption From EU Carbon Border Tax

France will seek an exemption for fertilizers from carbon border levies imposed this year by the European Union, in a move aimed at easing costs on struggling farmers, according to agriculture ministry officials.

French Agriculture Minister Annie Genevard will make the request at a meeting with EU counterparts in Brussels on Wednesday. As it stands, the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism would result in additional costs for farmers on their fertilizer supplies and disruptions to that market, the officials said.
