The UK government will reduce the level of sugar in a drink at which an additional tax will apply to 4.5g of total sugars per 100ml from 5g per 100ml, according to a statement.
- Will also remove the current exemption for milk-based and milk substitute drinks with added sugar
- Instead will introduce a ‘lactose allowance’ to account for naturally occurring sugars in milk
