Florida lawmakers are no closer to Gov. Ron DeSantis’s goal of eliminating property taxes after two days of hearings, causing several to concede more study is needed to find strategies for replacing the billions in revenue that would be lost.
The House Select Committee on Property Taxes concluded two days of testimony Tuesday that examined a pattern of escalating levies affecting almost every corner of the state. The committee solicited perspectives from DeSantis’s (R) administration, cities, counties, and school districts to better understand how local property taxes are calculated and imposed on homeowners and businesses.
