The California Office of Tax Appeals is seeking more guidance from the state attorney general on its powers to check the state’s other tax agencies, OTA chief counsel Kristen Kane said Friday.
Attorney General Rob Bonta released guidance earlier this year allowing the tribunal to decline to enforce tax rulings issued by the other tax agencies in August, but Kane said the OTA is still unclear on if it can make those decisions precedential.
