Louisiana Governor Calls on Lawmakers to Kill Off Income Tax

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry (R) called on lawmakers Monday to fully eliminate the personal income tax, speaking during his annual state of the state address and the opening day of the 2026 legislative session.

The idea already has some supporters in the state House, where two pre-filed bills seek to jettison Louisiana’s flat 3% personal income tax and the nearly $5 billion it raised in 2024.
