The Missouri House of Representatives passed two joint resolutions (HJR 173 and HJR 174) Tuesday that could set a path to eliminate the state’s personal income tax in the coming years.
Those resolutions will ask voters on an upcoming ballot to gradually reduce the state’s income tax rate and to allow lawmakers to increase and expand sales taxes to fill the revenue gap.
Gov. Mike Kehoe (R), who directed the legislature to begin phasing out income taxes in January, doesn’t have to approve joint resolutions, but he will decide whether to place the questions on the August or ...
