NBC Stuck With Penalties in Oregon Corporate Income Tax Case

NBC Universal Inc. can’t shake penalties after the Oregon Tax Court previously ruled that its network of local Oregon affiliate television stations created enough of a connection to the state to warrant the imposition of corporate income tax.

The company “failed to demonstrate there was substantial authority or a reasonable basis for the tax treatment they applied,” Magistrate Richard D. Davis ruled Wednesday, upholding the penalties for substantial understatement of taxable income.

The ruling resolves all the issues in the case that has been pending since 2017, making it ripe for appeal to the court’s regular division.
