Mentions of Georgia provoked a frosty reception among sales tax experts who gathered this month in an Oval Office-themed hotel ballroom in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Its chronic violations of a 24-state pact meant to simplify sales tax codes across the country have stretched past a decade. The state lawmakers, tax administrators, business leaders, and tax software vendors assembled for a meeting of the Streamlined Sales Tax governing board, which oversees the agreement, weren’t pleased.
