Enacting the GOP’s massive tax law is a priority for the IRS going into 2026 as the agency contends with its first full filing season after the Trump administration’s massive workforce cuts.
The 2025-2026 priority guidance plan gives a glimpse into what projects are getting attention, such as tax breaks on overtime and tips, and a slew of business deductions. The plan is much shorter than prior years, focused almost exclusively on the new law and the administration’s deregulation initiative.
