The Washington state senate voted Monday to advance a bill that would create the state’s first personal income tax by instituting a 9.9% levy on incomes over $1 million.
The bill (S.B. 6346) would create an income tax for households earning more than $1 million each year. It passed with a 27-22 vote and now heads to the house. Three Democrats joined all Republicans in voting no: state Sens. Adrian Cortes, Drew Hansen, and Deborah Krishnadasan.
