Congress could be headed toward another showdown over whether to rescind more funding the IRS needs to modernize systems and beef up enforcement.
House Republicans indicated in the stopgap spending bill that cleared Wednesday they might claw back additional IRS funding, or at least make it difficult for the agency to access funding. They used a legislative maneuver that effectively puts a temporary freeze on about an additional $20 billion of the agency’s supplemental enforcement funding, which set off alarms for Democrats.
House and Senate lawmakers now have until December 20 to hash out a final fiscal 2025 spending package. ...
