Democrats Oppose Plan to Stem Immigrant Access to Tax Credits

Democrat lawmakers in the House are pushing back against the Trump administration’s attempt to squeeze immigrants’ access to tax credits.

Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.) and Rep. Linda Sánchez (D-Calif.), both members of the House Ways and Means Committee, led several lawmakers in asking the Treasury Department to reconsider its plans to release proposed rules that would reclassify the refundable amount for certain tax credits as “federal public benefit.” The rules would ultimately curb the access of certain tax credits to immigrants.
