French Senators Warn of Wealth ‘Black Box’ in Tax System

French senators investigating how the rich minimize tax bills warned of increasing opacity of their assets and called for more reporting by the wealthiest.

Information the government has on fortunes has become less exact and less exhaustive over the last 20 years since the state discontinued some surveys and President Emmanuel Macron made changes to wealth tax declarations in 2017, according the report from the finance committee.
