A GOP-controlled House appropriations subcommittee legislation Thursday proposing funding the Education Department at $70.7 billion for fiscal year 2027, a cut from current levels, as the Trump administration seeks to dismantle the agency.
The agency is now operating under a $79 billion budget, after Congress rejected the administration’s bid to cut 15% from the department’s budget and fund the agency at $66.7 billion for the current fiscal year.
