Taxpayers increasingly are taking alternative avenues to resolve their tax disputes with the IRS, with a 28% boost in cases in 2025, an official said Friday.
The agency is starting to see the payoff after it took a series of steps to increase and improve alternative dispute resolution options that help avoid litigation. In 2024, the number of cases rose 24%.
“The growth that we have seen and have been able to perpetuate, in part, I think this is because overall ADRs have an additional emphasis but also because we’ve worked very hard to improve the product,” said Michael Baillif, ...
