President Donald Trump has nominated Jim Gadwood, a private sector attorney focusing on tax disputes, to serve as the top lawyer at the IRS.

Gadwood, whose nomination as IRS chief counsel was sent to the Senate on Tuesday, would oversee the office that provides advice to agency leaders and crafts regulations, including those to carry out the 2025 GOP tax law. The position has been pivotal in some of the most high-profile decisions at the IRS since the start of the Trump administration.
