The number of undergraduate students enrolled in accounting programs spiked for the third consecutive semester this spring, according to newly released data.
Accounting enrollment increased 12% compared to the prior year, adding more than 29,000 students to programs, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants said Monday, citing estimates from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. The rise comes as the profession grapples with a talent shortage, which has spurred efforts to recruit students and adjust licensing requirements.
