NY Town Gas Explosion Litigation Spurs Insurance Coverage Feud

A Travelers Cos. unit sued a Zurich Insurance Group AG carrier over who should pay legal costs for lawsuits stemming from a 2023 gas explosion in a New York town.

Charter Oak Fire Insurance Co. is seeking a ruling that Zurich American Insurance Co. must defend and pay costs for Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. in more than 20 lawsuits related to the November 2023 explosion in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., according to a complaint filed Friday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
