Howard University will increase the monthly pension payments of more than 1,700 retirees in a class settlement valued at $1.3 million, resolving litigation over how the Washington school calculated benefits for certain married workers.
Most of the net settlement proceeds will go to retirees and beneficiaries who began receiving pension payments in 2017 or later, with some benefits reserved for those whose payments began between 1995 and 2017.
