Jack in the Box Gets Post-Trial Win on Meal Break Pay Claims

Jack in the Box Inc. convinced a federal judge to undo a jury verdict awarding workers approximately $700 total for a meal break claim in a long-running wage-and-hour dispute.

When the fast food chain allegedly stiffed workers on pay for interrupted meal breaks, state law required compensation for the additional time worked only, not the entire meal period, so Jack in the Box deserves to win on that claim, the US District Court for the District of Oregon said Tuesday.
