Arizona is the latest state to challenge US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s push to quickly expand its migrant detention capacity in a lawsuit that alleges violations of federal environmental law.
The state sued the agency Friday over its plans to convert a warehouse into a holding facility without conducting an environmental review.
Its lawsuit filed in the US District Court for the District of Arizona alleges the agency unlawfully exempted its plans to renovate the Surprise, Ariz., facility from requirements under the National Environmental Policy Act.
