Australia Gives Environmental Approval for Undersea Power Cable

Australia has given environmental approval to a multibillion -dollar undersea power cable project, linking the mainland to renewable power generated on the island state of Tasmania.

Environment Minister Murray Watt cleared a key transmission component tied to the proposed Marinus Link, according to a statement on Friday. The project will build or upgrade transmission lines across a 162-kilometer (101 miles) corridor to connect the high-voltage cable with Tasmania’s hydro and wind resources.
