The Bureau of Land Management improperly authorized a wild horse removal plan in northeast California based on inaccurate overpopulation calculations, a lawsuit alleged.
Wild Horse Education and Carter Reservoir Mustangs filed the complaint Monday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of California, arguing the bureau and parent Interior Department wrongly adjusted the boundaries and management levels for three herd areas.Doing so violated several federal laws, including the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act and National Environmental Policy Act, the suit says.
