Emissions data released by the Environmental Protection Agency reveals a spike in sulfur dioxide emissions in 2025, the same year multiple heavy industries were given regulatory reprieves by the Trump administration.
EPA’s Clean Air Markets Program Data uploaded this month revealed that sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions from power plants increased by 18% last year, second only to a spike after the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. The data was culled from self-reported emissions of 1,840 facilities, from 1995-2025.
