Formosa Permit Extension Spurs Suit from Cancer Alley Groups (1)

Louisiana’s decision to grant a permit extension for Formosa Plastics in the heavily industrialized “Cancer Alley” corridor of the state lacked an updated air analysis, according to a lawsuit filed Thursday by advocates and residents.

RISE St. James, Louisiana Bucket Brigade, and other environmental justice groups are challenging a Jan. 6 Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) decision to extend a Clean Air Act Prevention of Significant Deterioration, or PSD, permit for Formosa Plastics, a highly contested petrochemical company in St. James Parish.

The lawsuit was filed in the Nineteenth Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge.
