The House Appropriations Committee Wednesday approved in a 35-27 vote Interior Department funding that pushes forward the Trump administration’s goals to expand oil and gas drilling and critical mineral mining on federal lands.
The proposal includes $38.9 billion in funding for the Interior Department, Environmental Protection Agency, US Forest Service, the Council on Environmental Quality, and other arts and culture programs. It now goes to the House floor for a vote.
The Interior Department’s fiscal year 2027 budget is $694 million higher than what Congress enacted last year, Republican appropriators said. The proposal cuts the EPA’s budget by 20%.
