A large phosphate mine in southeast Idaho has completed its federal permitting, a major milestone in the project’s completion, the Trump administration said Friday.
The Caldwell Canyon Mine approvals help strengthen the US domestic supply of the mineral, which is used in thousands of applications, mostly as a fertilizer but also to make pharmaceutical drugs, animal feed, detergents, and electronics.
The administration’s work on Caldwell Canyon’s permits came in response to a March executive order in which President Donald Trump called for more domestic mining, the Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council said.
