The former Monsanto Co. can be held liable for toxic chemical exposure in Vermont schools under the state’s medical monitoring law, the Vermont Supreme Court ruled.

The state high court said Friday that the chemical giant—which was absorbed by Bayer in 2018—may be liable for medical monitoring for students exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls because Monsanto knowingly sold the chemical compound to in-state building product manufacturers that supplied schools, according to an opinion affirming two questions in a putative class action.
