Nuclear Regulator Seeks to Handle Fusion Generated Waste Process

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is looking to add new regulations allowing it to handle waste from fusion nuclear power generators.

The NRC seeks to revise its byproduct material framework to include licensing and oversight of waste associated with fusion machines, it said in a proposed rule published Thursday. The changes would affect the sections of federal regulations outlining standards for protection against radiation, environmental report requirements, and the definitions of byproduct material, the proposal said.
