Senate Confirms FERC Nominees, Bringing Commission to Full Form

The Senate on Tuesday voted to confirm Laura Swett and David LaCerte as the final members needed to fill the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

The pair were confirmed as part of a group of nominations advanced together by the Senate.

The process has been closely watched by lawmakers and industry groups because the independent agency regulates the interstate transmission of electricity and natural gas. The increased demand in energy stemming from data centers and artificial intelligence—as well as the Trump administration’s push for more fossil-fuel use—are issues that the five-member commission will have to contend with.
