Lanny Erdos was confirmed by the Senate Tuesday to lead the federal government’s coal mine cleanup agency.
Erdos was confirmed as part of a group of nominations advanced together by the Senate.
In his new role as director of the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement, Erdos will oversee an agency that monitors coal mine operations, makes sure mine lands are restored after operations have ended, and tries to reclaim legacy coal mines.
