Trump’s First Gulf of Mexico Oil Auction Draws $279 Million

The Trump administration’s first oil and gas lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico generated more than $279 million in winning bids from oil companies for 181 tracts in federal waters Wednesday, the Interior Department said.

  • Qualified bidders included units of Chevron Corp., Shell PLC, BP PLC, and Repsol S.A., among others
  • Thirty companies submitted 219 bids, according to the Interior Department
