US Backs Enbridge in Line 5 Lawsuit Against Michigan’s Whitmer

The US Friday backed Enbridge Inc.’s lawsuit against Michigan’s governor, arguing that a judge should rule in the Canadian energy company’s favor as it seeks to prevent the shutdown of the Line 5 oil and gas pipeline.

The efforts of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) to shut down the aging 645-mile pipeline, which supplies propane to Michigan homes and light crude to refineries in the Midwest and Ontario, aren’t allowed for multiple reasons, the federal government’s statement of interest says.
