The Department of Defense estimates about 860,000 veterans and reservists served at Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C., while its water was contaminated with volatile organic compounds including trichloroethylene (TCE), perchloroethylene (PCE), benzene and vinyl chloride.
