Fired Trans Police Officer in Florida Advances Gender Bias Claim

A transgender man in Florida who was fired from the Sarasota Police Department advanced claims that the city discriminated against him because he gave notice of the planned gender change.

Eli Schanley can move forward with his claims that the City of Sarasota and its police chief, Rex Troche, committed gender bias by violating the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and 42 U.S.C. § 1983, which allows individuals to sue local government officials for violating their civil rights.
