M&S Extends Chairman’s Tenure to Help Move on From Cyberattack

Marks & Spencer Group Plc will extend the tenure of Chairman Archie Norman to help the British retailer implement its growth strategy and move past a period marred by a major cyberattack.

Norman, who took the role in 2017, will stay on for a further three years from September 2026, subject to a vote at its annual general meeting, M&S said in a statement Tuesday. The move has widespread support of shareholders, it said. A corporate governance rule known as “comply or explain” applies if a company wants to extend a chairman’s tenure beyond nine years.
