Women Athletes, Fresno State Get First Nod for Bias Settlement

California State University, Fresno and six former members of its now-shuttered women’s lacrosse program received preliminary approval of the agreement to resolve their Title IX sex bias class action suit.

The settlement will cover two classes of current and future Fresno State female athletes—those who have lost intercollegiate sports opportunities or those who have been deterred from pursuing athletic opportunities due to the “treatment received” by women’s sports at Fresno State, Judge Kimberly J. Mueller said Thursday for the US District Court for the Eastern District of California. Mueller said the settlement terms are “fair, adequate, and reasonable.”
