Australia’s finance department urged more consultation on legislation inspired by the PwC tax leak scandal that would ban unethical consultants and companies from performing contract work for the government.
The bill’s definition of “unethical conduct” is ambiguous, extending beyond behavior that results in legal convictions to grayer areas like poor labor practices, the Department of Finance said in feedback to the Senate committee where the bill originated. This could increase the risk of litigation from contractors who are debarred and may be inconsistent with Australia’s international obligations, the submission to the Senate Finance and Public Administration Committee said.
