Santander Drops Plan to Name Ex-Itau CFO as Accounting Head (1)

Banco Santander SA ditched a plan to appoint ex-Itau Unibanco Holding SA Chief Financial Officer Alexsandro Broedel Lopesas chief accounting officer, the latest twist in a months-long saga.

The Spanish lender has instead nominated the finance head of its Portugal unit, Manuel Preto, to the role, according to an internal memo seen by Bloomberg. A Santander spokesperson confirmed the memo’s details.

Santander previously planned to appoint Broedel to the role by July. Broedel, who joined Santander as senior vice president in December, was accused of fraud by Itau last year. The Brazilian lender said its former CFO failed ...
