Virginia is taking steps to expand overtime pay coverage to more domestic workers, under a bill currently scheduled to take effect July 1, 2028.
However, although Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D) signed HB 27 into law on April 22, it will not take effect unless the Virginia state legislature reenacts it during the 2027 state legislative session.
Domestic workers include employees, independent contractors, or workers who provide domestic services, under the bill.
