Anti-Abortion Groups Challenge Virginia Abortion Rights Proposal

Ballot language adding fundamental reproductive rights protections to Virginia’s constitution misleads voters and must be declared invalid, anti-abortion groups said in a new lawsuit.

Plaintiffs led by the Association of American Physicians and Surgeons sued the state elections board in the Tazewell County Circuit Court Thursday, saying the initiative leaves voters “blind” to the breadth of they right they’re being asked to approve.

That same court, in the rural, heavily red southwestern part of the state, recently blocked Virginia’s redistricting plan from taking effect.
