Democratic state officials are urging the Food and Drug Administration to eliminate restrictions on the abortion drug mifepristone, a request that comes as the future of the medication remains uncertain amid courtroom challenges and agency plans to review its safety.
Requirements for prescribers and pharmacies to be specially certified and a patient agreement form when using the drug pose unnecessary restrictions on mifepristone and should be eliminated or at least not be enforced by the FDA, attorneys general from New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and California said to the agency in a Thursday petition.
