Fertility Clinic, Insurer Settle Destroyed Embryo Coverage Case

ProAssurance Specialty Insurance Co. has agreed to settle its insurance coverage case against a Washington state-based fertility clinic over underlying litigation alleging the clinic destroyed patients’ embryos without consent.

Pacific Northwest Fertility & IVF Specialists and the insurer have reached a settlement-in-principle, ProAssurance said in a Monday filing in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington.

  • ProAssurance sued the clinic in August seeking declaratory judgment, arguing that several exclusions in the policy precluded coverage for the underlying suit.
