An anti-affirmative action group is suing a Hawaiian private school for only admitting students with Hawaiian ancestry.
Kamehameha Schools’ preference for admitting native Hawaiian students goes too far, according to a complaint for the US District Court for the District of Hawaii, because the school allegedly admits no students that lack Hawaiian ancestry. The policy shouldn’t be considered a “valid affirmative action plan” under Section 1981, the Students for Fair Admissions said Monday in reference to federal equal rights protections. The federal law prohibits racial discrimination in contracting.
