In-Patient Emergency Medical Care Case Proceeds in Puerto Rico

A Puerto Rico hospital must go to trial on allegations it violated the federal emergency care law by failing to properly screen and stabilize a patient who died shortly after being discharged several days after being admitted.

Hospital Pavía Arecibo didn’t establish that its emergency room properly screened Miguel A. Santiago-Cuevas according to policies applicable to any patient presenting with the same symptoms, the US District Court for the District of Puerto Rico said Thursday.
