The Massachusetts health department agreed to destroy data collected through Covid-19 tracking software installed on over one million Android phones without owner permission, as part of a settlement proposed to resolve a federal privacy lawsuit.
The Massachusetts Department of Public Health also agreed not to install similar technology on Android devices without owner permission for five years, unless it’s legally authorized to do so. The US District Court for the District of Massachusetts must give final approval for the settlement to take effect.
